Given his commercial experience and previous director roles, Lionel is a first choice for SPV appointments particularly where they may form part of a larger investment portfolio or transaction, and whether or not they are property related. His finance and tax expertise and ability to understand the breadth of all matters relating to the “numbers”, means he is an excellent addition to many boards and, in this respect, he is certainly a welcome member of our team. As a former trustee for a large pension scheme, he also has added expertise that is invaluable when acting in a fiduciary capacity.
Lionel is a senior finance professional having spent the majority of his career in the international property sector, with a specific emphasis on teams involved in large and complex transactions. He has also utilised this knowledge in his role as a pension trustee and when working through corporate restructures.
Given this background, it is unsurprising that his technical financial knowledge is of a high level, with this supported by his governance, compliance and risk knowledge particularly in the property sector.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) and member of their tax faculty, he trained as a chartered accountant at a Big 4 accountancy firm following a degree in economics, accounting and business finance at Manchester University. He utilises this formal training alongside his subsequent experience in property-based investment companies, where the transactional structure supports effective investment in property.
