IDT's 5th Anniversary

5 years already - what an incredible journey IDT has been on

5 years ago, IDT was set up with a blank sheet of paper and a vague idea to share knowledge accumulated over the years, particularly in relation to governance.

What a journey it’s been, developing the concept, expanding our contacts and always gaining new knowledge whilst sharing our own. We’ve learnt lots of lessons along the way, and benefited from the wisdom and advice of many experts, advisers and business coaches. We’ve had our ups, and our challenges (never complete downs) and we continue to try new things and develop our proposition.

Through our workshops and board appointments we’ve worked with an amazing array of diverse clients at different stages of their own journeys. All have one thing in common – a desire to get the best out of their organisation. Recognising and developing their boards, committees, forums, and working groups in their business and seeking to get the most effective use of, and interconnection between, these groups and their members. Governance in action , supporting and underpinning business success.

Along the way we’ve welcomed new colleagues under our consultant umbrella. Some learnt and left, and we hope we helped them in their career journey. Others have stayed and have been an invaluable part of our own journey.

We’re now 20 consultants, acting as directors, trustees and workshop leads … mainly, but not all, appointed as independent trustees to employee owned companies, we all have experience in senior roles, chairing formal meetings or leading businesses.

We still have our monthly knowledge sharing get togethers. We also have knowledge sharing sessions for leaders of employee owned companies who are not the founders/vendors. A unique role and an amazing group of dynamic and supportive individuals who share their experiences with fellow attendees.

We’ve also created and continue to develop our Trustee Toolkit – a unique knowledge bank of materials to support our consultants in their role as independent trustees.

Our values remain at the core of what we do:

  • 2-way knowledge sharing … imparting and gaining knowledge in equal measure, for personal development and client benefit;
  • Business professionalism … applying good business ethics in all our interactions, encouraging diverse views and opinions, not seeking to gain at others expense;
  • Respectful confidence … having the self-confidence to share our knowledge whilst creating collegiate, supportive and respectful environments for all.

We look forward to seeing where the next 5 years take us as we continue to learn and share our knowledge with colleagues and clients.
